Mussoorie is a hill station and a municipal board in the Dehradun district of the Indian state of Uttarakhand. It is about 35 kilometres (22 mi) from the state capital of Dehradun and 290 km (180 mi) north of the national capital of New Delhi. The hill station is in the foothills of the Garhwal Himalayan range. The adjoining town of Landour, which includes a military cantonment, is considered part of "greater Mussoorie", as are the townships of Barlowganj and Jharipani.

  2. Lal Tibba

           Lal Tibba earlier was at the highest peak of Mussoorie where presently TV Tower is located. The earlier Lal Tibba peak had a fixed large binocular through which one could see the snow clad peaks of Himalayas that lies to the north. After the construction of TV Tower the binocular was shifted on the Landour ridge towards west which is now named as Lal Tibba and is located near "Childer's Lodge".

    Comparatively less crowded than its famous counterpart and the best season to visit Lal Tibba would be during the clear summer skies, between March and July. The weather is delightful during summers. The months from November to February are freezing, with a galore of snowfall, almost twice that of Mussoorie.

  3. Gun Hill Point

           Gun Hill is the second highest point of Mussoorie, at an altitude of 2,024 m (6,640 ft) and at 30.4953°N 78.0745°E, and is accessed by cable car constructed from the Mall road. The cable car was constructed by the efforts of Mr. Hukam Singh Pawar when he was the Chairman, Mussoorie Municipal Board. At Gun Hill is a cannon previously used to sound midday time for the local inhabitants.[citation needed]. It is the second-highest spot after Lal Tibba.

           At Park Estate are the remains of the building and laboratory of Sir George Everest, the Surveyor-General of India from 1830 to 1843. It is after George Everest that the world's highest peak Mt. Everest is named. It is 6 km (3.5 mi) from Gandhi Chowk and a scenic walk from Library Bazaar, although accessible by road transport to at least Haathi Paon. The place provides a view of Doon Valley on one side and a panoramic view of the Aglar River valley and the peaks of the Himalayan ranges on the other.

How to reach

By Air

Jolly Grant Airport (50 km away) in Dehradun is the domestic airport closest to Mussoorie, which is well connected with major Indian cities. All the major carriers offer regular flights to this destination from Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore. After reaching the airport, travellers can hire taxis to reach Mussoorie; a journey of about two hours.

By Bus

Mussoorie is well linked by a network of state and private buses to its neighbouring cities. A number of luxury, deluxe and semi-deluxe buses ply frequently from Delhi, Dehradun, Rishikesh, Tehri and Haridwar. Buses are easily available from ISBT Kashmiri Gate in Delhi. Delhi to Mussoorie bus takes around nine to ten hours via NH 58 to cover a distance of 290 km to reach the destination. One can also reach from Delhi to Mussoorie by car in less than 8 to 9 hours, given the good conditions of highway roads. The drive is fun and scenic, as the travellers pass by lovely mountains and greenery.

By Train

Dehradun Railway Station, situated at a distance of about 28 km, is the nearest railhead serving the beautiful hill station Mussoorie. Travellers coming from New Delhi can book their tickets in Shatabdi Express, Mussoorie Express or Nizamuddin AC Special as these are the best trains connecting New Delhi to Dehradun. The best option from Delhi is Delhi Dehradun Shatabdi Express, which takes just five and a half hours to reach Dehradun. From outside the railway station, one can hire private taxis or take buses to reach Mussoorie. These taxis are available on sharing as well as individual basis. Those wish to save a little can opt for sharing taxis and cabs available from the taxi stand located close to the main bus stop in Dehradun.
